CANADA SUMMER GAMES
August 9-14, 2025 – St. John’s Swilers Rugby Football Club will be the host location for the Rugby Sevens leg of the 2025 Canada Summer Games. In such a rugby-rich province, Rugby Sevens will be a centerpiece for the competition which will garnish attention and pertinence to the competition and competitors alike. Team Saskatchewan has began recruiting and training for this competition.
RUGBY IN THE GAMES
Rugby Sevens will be among 17 sports featured at the Games, taking place the summer of 2025 in Newfoundland and Labrador’s St. John Region. Consisting of more than 4,000 athletes and coaches, the 2025 Canada Games will welcome our nation’s next generation of national, international, and Olympic champions as the best young developing athletes from across the nation assemble to compete in Canada’s largest multi-sport event. One of the oldest sports to be featured at the St. John’s 2025 Games, Rugby Sevens has exploded in recent years, partly due to the success of the National Canadian women’s team. Men’s rugby first joined the Canada Summer Games program for back to back Games in 1981 and 1985, and after sitting out the 1989 Games, returned from 1993-2009. After the U18 girls made their debut in the 2022 Niagara Canada Summer Games, the St. John’s, N.L. The Bid Committee has tapped Rugby Sevens as the Host Choice sport for the games.
