Rookie Rugby Manitoba Wrap-Up: Over 200 Youth Athletes Take the Field in Summer 2025
Rugby Manitoba is proud to celebrate the successful conclusion of the 2025 Rookie Rugby season, which saw over 200 youth athletes from U6 to U15 take part in weekly programming across the province.
This season featured two development streams: Flag Rugby and Intro to Contact Rugby. Both streams offered safe, fun, and skill-focused entry points into the game, allowing athletes to build confidence, coordination, and a love for rugby in a team environment.
Programming was hosted in communities across Winnipeg, Steinbach, Selkirk, Portage la Prairie, and Dauphin, with weekend jamborees rotating locations and bringing together youth from all corners of the province. These events created vibrant rugby hubs filled with energy, encouragement, and community spirit.
A huge thank you goes out to all the clubs that made this season possible:
- Wombats RFC
- Assassins RFC
- Wanderers RFC
- Brumbies RFC
- Taika Youth Rugby (Steinbach)
- Portage Wolves Youth RC
- Parkland Pirates Youth Rugby Association (Dauphin)
- Deer Lodge Youth RC
- Maskwa Youth RC (Selkirk)
Your dedication to fostering youth development and creating inclusive, high-quality rugby experiences is the foundation of our sport's growth.
We’re also incredibly grateful to the volunteer coaches, club organizers, and parents who brought their time, energy, and support week in and week out. From first-time passes to highlight-reel tries, Rookie Rugby 2025 was full of memorable moments that inspired the next generation of players.
As we close out the season, Rugby Manitoba looks forward to building on this momentum in 2026 with more programming, new faces, and continued community collaboration.
